Fake Amazon Refund Text

We want to alert you to a scam that’s been fooling even the savviest shoppers lately. It starts with a text message that looks like it's from Amazon, but it’s actually from a scammer trying to steal your personal or financial information.

Here’s how it works:
You receive a text claiming that an item you bought failed a “routine quality inspection” or has been recalled. It might even include the name of a product you actually ordered to make it seem more real. The message sounds helpful, and many people are tempted to click the link. The message offers you a full refund, no return required, just tap a link to get your money back. Amazon does not issue refunds this way!
The link leads to a fake website that looks exactly like Amazon’s official site. From there, the scammers may try to:
Steal your Amazon username and password
Trick you into entering your credit card or bank information
Install malicious software on your device
How to Stay Safe
Here are some easy steps you can take to protect yourself:
Do not click links in unexpected text messages or emails—even if they mention Amazon, your bank, Medicare, or another company you trust.
If you think the message might be real, go directly to Amazon.com (or open the Amazon app) and check your recent orders there.
Never enter your personal details (like passwords or credit card numbers) unless you're sure you're on a trusted website.
Use two-step verification on your Amazon account. That means even if someone gets your password, they still can’t log in without a second code sent to your phone.
Report scam texts by forwarding them to 7726 (that spells “SPAM” on your keypad). It’s free, and helps phone companies block scammers.
